‘Annual Juried Student Exhibition’ to be Displayed in Crisp Museum

The “Annual Juried Student Exhibition” will be displayed beginning April 4 in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum on Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

The exhibit, which showcases the creative talents of Southeast’s Department of Art students, will remain on display through April 27.

The public is invited to attend an opening reception from 4-8 p.m. April 4. Awards will be presented in the following categories: 2D Color/Design Foundations, 3D Foundations, Graphic Design/Illustration, Digital Arts, Ceramics, Fibers, Printmaking, Painting, Drawing and New Genre. Best in Show, Distinguished Merit Award and Purchase Awards also will be presented.

This is a significant show for Southeast students, showcasing selected works that have been created within the past year. Many of the works on view will be available for purchase.

This year’s juror is Kyle Triplett, whose solo exhibit is on display through March 25 in the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus Art Gallery. Triplett will lecture about his work from noon to 1 p.m. March 26 in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center.

Each year, a professional artist is selected to act as juror for the Department of Art’s Annual Juried Student Exhibition and to exhibit a solo show of their own work. Triplett is an alumnus of Southeast who completed his Master of Fine Arts in ceramics at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio last May.

“We’re thrilled to have one of Southeast’s successful alums from our BFA degree program jury this year’s annual exhibition,” said Kristin Powers Nowlin, coordinator of the River Campus Art Gallery. “Kyle Triplett went on to complete his MFA in Spring 2013 at Ohio University, which is consistently regarded as one of the top three ceramics programs in the country, so we’re excited to see what work Kyle will select from the hundreds of artworks submitted by our students.”

Triplett is a 2008 graduate of Southeast where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics. The River Campus Atrium at Southeast displayed his Bachelor of Fine Arts thesis project, “Restless Nights” in 2008.

He did post-baccalaureate studies in ceramics at Louisiana State University in 2009. In 2010, he returned to the United States to pursue his Master of Fine Arts. He later studied ceramics and art history in Hungary in 2011 at the International Ceramics Studio. During the 2012-2013 academic year, he served as a graduate associate instructor for “Introduction to Ceramics” at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he also was the woodshop monitor. His Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition, “In Other Fields,” was displayed in The Majestic Gallery in Nelsonville, Ohio.

Triplett’s work has been displayed in a number of solo, invitational, juried and group exhibitions, and he has served as a panel moderator and lecturer over the past six years.
