Cape Girardeau Roller Girls vs Clarksville TN

It’s a well-kept secret, but the Cape Girardeau Roller Girls (CGRG) are a bunch of art-loving softies. Soon their secret will be public knowledge, since the nonprofit recipient of the team’s June 21st bout is the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. Despite their track-tough image, Southeast Missouri’s only roller derby team donates proceeds from every home game to a local charity. Now in their fifth season, the CGRG has donated more than $20,000 to area nonprofits. Last month the team donated $400 to Beacon Health Center, and proceeds from the May17th bout will be presented to Watkins Wildlife Rehab at halftime of the June bout.

Halfway through their season, the Cape Girardeau Roller Girls (CGRG) are 2-2 and looking for another home win. The Clarksvillain Roller Girls of Clarksville, TN, roll into Cape on June 21st, hoping to even the score from a loss year when the CGRG beat them on their own track 337-26.

Last month the CGRG soundly defeated Confluence Crush (247-76) who traveled from Belleville, Illinois, in an especially hard-hitting bout loaded with penalties and physical drama. This month the teams are fairly well matched, having been in existence for roughly the same number of years, with both rosters consisting of newer skaters and seasoned vets. Both teams have lightning-fast jammers to break through the pack, but the Cape roller girls have been practicing some new maneuvers to make their tight walls even more impenetrable.

A new addition to the CGRG lineup this year is a coed mash-up of any skaters from the area who choose to participate. The main event begins at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5; the mash-up follows after a brief break. All fans will have an opportunity to take pictures and get autographs in between the two bouts.

All home bouts are held at the A.C. Brase Arena, and food and beverages are available for purchase. Discounted tickets can be purchased in advance at The Arts Council, PMac Music and from any roller girl for $7 or online at; tickets can be purchased for $9 at the door the night of the bout. The Cape Girardeau Roller Girls promote good sportswomanship in a family-friendly environment. Children are encouraged to attend, with those under 5 getting in free.
