Arts Council Member Artist Work On Display

Friday, September 5, from 5 to 9 p.m., the Southeast Missouri Arts Council will host a reception for the members of the Arts Council who participated in the Second Annual Members Exhibit. The show will be on display until September 27, and features exhibits in both Arts Council gallery spaces.

Paintings, pastels, mixed media, and photographic pieces are represented, as well as several three-dimensional works. Artists of all skill levels and experience were invited to submit their works for display. The only requirement for entries was that the artist must be on the current member roster for the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri.

As a slight departure from last year’s exhibit, this year’s show will feature three cash awards to be named during the reception. Juror Thomas Smugala, of 573 Magazine, will select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place award winners prior to the First Friday reception.

Executive Director Murielle Gaither is pleased with the entries received so far. Gaither states, “It is always such a pleasure to see the work of our member artists in our gallery. These artists are the lifeblood of our organization, and we consider it a privilege to host a show dedicated to their talent.”

During the First Friday reception, beverages and other refreshments will be available for guests, courtesy of Bluff City Beer Company.

The Visual Arts Cooperative will also debut new works in their gallery space at the Arts Council. Window exhibitors for September include Annie Schuchart and Margaret Schneider.

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is located at 32 North Main Street in Cape Girardeau, MO. Galleries are open Tuesday- Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
