History rolled into Cape Girardeau Tuesday evening while hundreds of people cheered and welcomed the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run riders to downtown. That enthusiasm is important because this coast to coast race with only pre-1938 motorcycles is rough on both riders and machines. Most of the 100 riders crossed the Cape checkpoint without any problem, but a few of the motorcycle racers needed assistance and one rider needed a new engine.
Stacy Lane, Director of Public Relations at the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, says the riders appreciated the support of the community and the mechanical support of Grass Roots BMW. Grass Roots provided its shop and staff to riders for any repairs necessary to keep them in the race.
Lane says along with the Cannonball riders about 100 other motorcyclists gathered downtown to participate in this historic event. Now that Stage 6 of the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run is in the books, the riders continue their journey to the finish line in Tacoma, Washington.
