Nutcracker production reaches its 20th year

The Young People’s Performing Arts Theatre of Farmington Missouri has hit a milestone this year. This will be the troupe’s 20th performance of ‘The Nutcracker’ play. Dancers and actors of all ages and backgrounds have been preparing for their roles since summer.

This is the largest cast the show has had since it began in 1981. With 180 performers, 600 costume pieces, and a budget of $70,000, this small town is giving their play the big city treatment, without the travel or expensive tickets.

Kimberly Gavin Anderson is the founder of the dance company, saying that the, “organization’s mission is to provide young artists expanded and enriching performance opportunities in a full length, classical production by bringing classics to the area.”

This provides local children and adults an amazing opportunity to perform in one of the most beloved plays of all time. Performers describe the experience as a ‘family-like’ atmosphere with lots of fun, and many families perform together.

The production is scheduled for December 11-13 at the Centene Center in Farmington. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. each evening, and a 1 p.m. matinee on December 13. Tickets are $12.50, and can be purchased by calling 573-756-0900.
