When you operate an ambulance, on-the-job injuries are a big risk for both EMTs and those they help. In Union County, the Illinois Department of Public Health has provided a grant that will fund new equipment to make their jobs safer and easier.
The one that is causing the most excitement is the ‘Stair Chair’. This piece of equipment operates on a set of tracks and helps EMTs move patients safely, and with minimal effort when transportation involves stairs or tight corners. The ‘Stair Chair’ allows for a slow and controllable decent and reduces the risk of injury.
