About Us

Our Mission:

At Broussard's Cajun Cuisine do our best to provide a laid-back enviroment and delicious food. Our aim is to offer authentic, high quality, and reasonably priced foods originating from the bayous of Southwest Louisiana, as well as all-American classics. We consider ourselves partners with our customers as we strive to proudly represent the Historic Downtown District of our community. Our goal is to continue building our already regionally recognized name while capitalizing on the enduring interest in Cajun cuisine.

Our History:

In 1986, Mr. Barron T. Broussard and his wife, Kathy, arrived in Cape Girardeau from Crowley, Louisiana with the desire to bring the bayou to the Midwest. Their friendly and outgoing personalities allowed them to establish a sound reputation very quickly. Barron and Kathy spruced up the restaurant by filling it with New Orleans décor. With murals throughout the whole building, as well as various neon lights and pictures, it gives customers a Louisiana vibe. They also installed an alligator tank that ran along the bar side wall and was home to the infamous “Felix de Gator”.

In 1991 Barron sold the restaurant to Mr. Dennis Stockard. Although the ownership had changed, Broussard's was able to keep their unique atmosphere and highly renowned reputation. In 1997, Dennis turned the business over to his son Shawn. The only difference was that he aimed more at the younger bar crowd.

In February 2004, Broussard's was purchased from the Stockards by Hunter and Stephanie Clark. Once again, although the business had been sold, the Clarks have maintained the wonderfully unique qualities of Broussard's. Currently, Hunter and Stephanie have continued to try to build upon the achievements of Barron. They have strived to provide both consistent quality food and excellent service.

On May 1 2011, Broussard's Cajun Cuisine celebrated its 25th birthday!

Throughout the years Broussard’s has hosted many live music events along with dart tournaments. Most of the live entertainment acts were local musicians that still play around the area today. Some of them include: The Big Idea, Tony Spinner Band, and Ivas John Band.

Currently Broussard’s Cajun Cuisine no longer hosts live entertainment. It was a little more work that Hunter & Steph bargained for, and they mainly wanted to provide more of a family atmosphere versus the bar crowd. They also no longer display the gator tank due to various health code reasons and maintenance, but Felix de Gator remains as our mascot and is in our logo!

Although over the years many things have changed, all of our recipes are authentic originals from Barron Broussard and Louisiana to this day! Broussard’s Cajun Cuisine is blessed to have an awesome staff with plenty of personality!
