Memorial Day Activities 2015

Memorial Day is about paying tribute to those who have sacrificed for our freedoms. Make the most of the Memorial Day weekend by enjoying one of the many activities taking place in the region.


  • Witness a historical reenactment at Fort D in Cape Girardeau. Actors in full costume will provide cannon and musket fire in memory of fallen soldiers on May 23, 24, and 25 at 9:00 a.m. At 6:00 p.m. on May 23 there will also be a live performance of period music.

  • In memory of the 140th Infantry there will be a monument dedication ceremony at Cape County North Park. Member retirees, spouses, present guardsmen, and the public are invited to attend. Bring your own lawn chair May 23 at 10:00 a.m.

  • Honeycreek Farm in Murphysboro is hosting a Memorial Day party with live music by As Girls Go, May 23 at 4:00 p.m.

  • Attend the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Osage Center with live music by the Cape Municipal Band. May 25 at 10:30 a.m.

  • The VFW in Cape Girardeau is hosting a Memorial Day lunch May 25 at noon.

  • The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield is having a Memorial Day program in honor of veterans. Keynote Speaker is John Michael (Mike) Mowrer. May 25 at 1:00 p.m.

  • For an entertaining show go to Rusty Spur Arena in Burtrand for horse barrel races May 25 at 3:00 p.m.

  • In honor of Memorial Day Alto Vineyards is holding a special Monday performance by Hokie Joe at 7:00 p.m. on May 25.

  • The Carbondale Memorial Day Service takes place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Carbondale led by The Carbondale Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie and Auxilary #2569. May 25 at 10:00 a.m.

  • Cobden will host a Memorial Day Service at the Cobden Village Cemetery with keynote speaker Charles Neal, Jr. on May 25 at 9:30 a.m.

  • There will be a Memorial Day Service in Sikeston at the Sikeston Veterans Park on May 25 at 10:30 a.m.

  • Memorial Service at Higginsville Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville with keynote speaker Todd Whitney on May 25 at 1:00 p.m.

  • In Waynesville there will be a ceremony at the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery with keynote speaker B.G. Kent Savre. May 25 at 1:00 p.m.

  • There will be a ceremony at the Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville with keynote speaker Bryan Hunt. May 25 at 9:00 a.m.
