Tributary Film Festival to Showcase Local Films

Tribuary logo courtesy of FacebookYou don’t have to be in Hollywood to make movies, and the Tributary Film Festival in Sikeston is giving all amateur and professional filmmakers a chance to show off their skills and bring their stories to life. In a small-town area of aspiring actors, writers, directors, and film crew the Tributary Film Festival gives everyone a chance to leave their mark.

There’s nothing better than seeing your art come to life in front of an audience, and The Tributary Film Festival is making that happen. The festival welcomes films with at least one scene shot in Sikeston that are less than 45 minutes long, of any genre. This midsummer cinematic treat will feature a red carpet screening where film-lovers can watch the entries. There will be an afterparty to follow, with live music and hors d’oeuvres, the perfect place to mingle and discuss your favorite films.

There will be a second screening the following day, with a question and answer session with the directors, followed by the short film extravaganza. Awards will be announced that night. The judges include industry experts Dr. James Dufek, Dr. Walter Metz, and Derek Hammeke. Hammeke understands the benefit that comes from a small film festival, “When your film is selected by a smaller festival it’s actually really fun. Your film feels welcomed. The atmosphere is so much more down-to-earth. These smaller festivals feel more pure, like they show films for the love of films. It’s a blast.”

There will also be a special screening of Love Chronicles of the Cape, a full-length independent movie filmed in Cape Girardeau.

The perfect place for movie makers and lovers alike, the Tributary Film Festival takes place July 10 and 11 in Downtown Sikeston. For a full schedule visit their Facebook Page. A weekend pass is only $15, or a single screening is $5. Come support our local filmmakers and see what stories they have to tell.
