Broadway Building Brought to Life

Laurie Everett At Annie Laurie’s Antiques in Downtown Cape owner Laurie Everett had a perfect view of 605 Broadway across the street - a beautiful Victorian-style home that once housed several businesses, and for several years has sat empty and decaying.

“I watched it sit, and just couldn’t bear the thought of it deteriorating beyond repair,” Laurie said after confessing a fear for her sanity when taking on the project, “I’m crazy.”

Sane or no, Laurie’s determination to save the old building has payed off. Inside repairs are being finished, making room for retail and office space. The Victorian charm combined with Laurie’s special decorating techniques have given the building a unique aesthetic of modern flare and classic architecture.

Already open in the building is the Free Spirit Studio and Mother Earth. The studio sells local, handmade items like jewelry. They also hold classes where patrons can make their own mosaics.

Much like Annie Laurie’s Antiques, Mother Earth is a little bit of everything - a room with a variety of bohemian bric-a-brac like books, decor, knick knacks, clothes, art, and more. Upstairs repairs are still underway for retail and office space which have all been rented out.

Outside there is a guest house where Laurie is creating a Bed and Breakfast for overnight stays. There is also a private party room that guests can rent out for events.

The new building even has a mascot. Laurie lamented over a rogue squirrel - notable for a ragged tail - that lives on the property. A rogue squirrel guards the front lawn He was there at the entrance, welcoming visitors to the grand opening held December 19.

Life has returned to the beautiful Queen Annie building. Visit the Facebook page, or stop by 605 Broadway and see the amazing changes.
