2016 Howard Aslinger Summer Music Festival

Every year they host the Howard Aslinger Foundation Summer Music Festival, which raises money for scholarships - all of which go to recipients who are differently-abled.

Funding for a fine cause, the Summer Music Festival also offers the community a full day of fun and music. The event takes place at the Red Show Barn in Arena Park in Cape Girardeau. Several local bands are scheduled to perform this evening concert.  Mike Renick, Platinum Strings, Paragon, and Us Instead will all take the stage.

Concessions will also be available. 2 Sides Grillin’ will provide food, along with beer, wine, soda, and water. The concert is completely open to the public.

Kim Kelpe is a co-founder and board member of the foundation, she is also the daughter of Howard Aslinger. She explained that, “It’s a family foundation . . . My dad was in a wheelchair, and he always looked at it as an inconvenience, not a handicap. We put effort into that idea, to help people move on with life through education and athletics.”

The Summer Music Festival is one of the foundations two annual fundraisers. The proceeds go to the scholarship fund.

“It’s a time for everyone to get together, enjoy music, and have fun. We’ll also announce the scholarship recipients,” says Kim.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 at Missouri Runnig Co.  Tickets purchased at the gate will be $15. The music festival takes place August 13 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Learn more about the foundation on their website.
