Mrs. Cape Girardeau

A woman who enjoys wearing many hats,Dr. Erin Fluegge-Woolf has recently acquired a new one:  a tiara. Newly crowned as Mrs. Cape Girardeau, Erin will compete in the Mrs. Missouri Pageant, a gateway event for the Mrs. America and Mrs. World Pageants. The event will be held at the Folly Theater in Kansas City on Saturday, March 1.

The Mrs. Missouri Pageant, among other purposes, raises awareness for the contestants’ platforms – organizations, charities, or issues that each contestant is passionate about. Erin has chosen one near to her that has a community-wide influence. The VintageNOW Fashion Show, an annual event hosted by Pastimes Antiques, raises funds and awareness for the Safe House for Women and is her cause of choice. She has participated in the VintageNOW Fashion Show as a model for the last three years, and in honor of her platform, Erin will sport vintage accessories to dress up her competition wear.

In addition to getting ready for the competition, Erin enjoys spending time with her husband Rob and their dog Zoë. She is a professor of management in the Harrison College of Business at Southeast Missouri State University and is active in several organizations and events including Leadership Cape, Leadership Missouri, Women Inspiring Entrepreneurship, The Power of Women Luncheon, and the Southeast Young Alumni Chapter. “I’m a lifelong learner. It makes me a better teacher in the classroom and mentor to my students. I am always excited to meet and network with new people.” She looks forward to continuing to be involved with community organizations and businesses over the course of the pageant and beyond.

The impending competition is something that Erin is particularly excited about. “I have been a performer since I was young, and nowI get to do so at a new level – on behalf of our city,” she said. When asked what she was most excited about, she laughed, “Besides hopefully being crowned Mrs. Missouri?” She continued, “I love trying new things, and I always encourage my students to do the same. This contest is something new for me, and I am excited to represent Cape Girardeau. I can’t wait to share our city’s story!”

Erin knows that she is surrounded by a community full of extraordinary people, businesses and organizations, and that is something she hopes to showcase to others throughout the pageant journey. “I just want to demonstrate to everyone what a great place Cape Girardeau is to live, work, and play!” As a lot goes into the preparation for the contest, sponsorships are welcome to help on the journey and to show support. “Anything is appreciated, and creativity is encouraged!” she said, and noted that goods and services as well as monetary donations are appreciated. Erin celebrated the start of her journey with a kickoff party at the Library in Downtown Cape on February 7. The opportunity gave her a chance to meet more of the people of the town she would be representing in addition to collecting questions to help with her interview portion of the contest. Pictures of the event can be found here. She was also recently featured on with Kevin Casey on 100.7 KGMO, along with Lauren Cole of The Rite Group and Tim Mirly of St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson discussing school safety.
