Enchantment of ‘Mary Poppins’ Flies into Southeast’s River Campus

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s “Mary Poppins” will deliver spoonfuls of sugar as part of the Rhodes 101 Stops and Commerce Bank Theatre and Dance Series at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

 Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21-24 and 2 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.

Everyone’s favorite practically perfect nanny takes the stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure. One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical!

“Our spring musical is an enchanting story with unforgettable songs that our audiences of all ages are sure to fall in love with,” said Dr. Kenneth Stilson, chair of The Conservatory of Theatre and Dance. “Families and children will go wild over this musical spectacle, complete with flying,”

The jack-off-all trades, Bert, introduces England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children and audiences on many magical and memorable adventures.

Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, “Mary Poppins” has delighted Broadway audiences with over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
