Mizicko Presenting ‘Found Objects as Musical Instruments’ in Red Light Night Series

Dr. Shane Mizicko, associate professor of music and director of percussion studies at Southeast Missouri State University, will present “Found Objects as Musical Instruments” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, as part of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri’s Red Light Night Series.


Mizicko’s lecture-performance will explore the role and influence of found objects in modern classical music. Found objects can be described as any commonplace item . . . coffee cans, glass bottles, pieces of steel pipe, scraps of lumber and automobile brake drums.

Before joining the faculty at Southeast in 2005, Mizicko was an instructor of percussion studies at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago from 2000 until 2005.

Red Light Night is a series of after-hours discussions on a variety of topics within the arts. Red Light Night sessions are presented by guest lecturers and panelists at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 16 N. Spanish Street in downtown Cape Girardeau on select Thursdays at 7 p.m. Wine for Red Light Night has been provided by James Seyer of Realty Executives.
