Saxon Lutheran Memorial Fall Festival

Head for the East Perry County, Missouri hills this weekend and step back in time at the Saxon Lutheran Memorial Annual Fall Festival. It may be a mouthful to say, but the festival is simply fun with homemade apple butter, music, handmade crafts, food and 1800’s demonstrations of what life was like when this area was settled. You’ll get to see quilting, shingle making, spinning, broom making, cider pressing, blacksmithing, bread baking, horse and buggy rides, and more.

You may even want to take part in the festival auctions. Some of the items you can bid on will be an authentic pair of German Lederhosen, an antique iron bed frame, 2 knives made by the blacksmith and my person favorite, some old doors.  That’s how it is listed; some old doors. I wonder what year the doors are from and how many?

The Saxon Lutheran Memorial is located in Frohna on 31 acres with log cabins and buildings that were built by German Lutheran settlers. While there be sure to pick up a walking tour guide and explore the many historic buildings on the grounds.  You can explore the settler’s homes, slave cabins, confirmation room, country store, and more.

The Fall Festival celebrates the area’s history, but you don’t have to be German or Lutheran to enjoy it. It’s for everyone and every year thousands make their way to this beautiful small town to experience another world, if only for a weekend.

Saxon Lutheran Memorial Fall Festival:  Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 9am-4pm.
