Bloom Heavy River Romp

by Becky Davenport

Bloom Heavy River Romp may be rather new still, but it has taken Southeast Missouri by a musical storm.

In 2010, when the first Bloom Heavy River Romp kicked off in Bloomfield, MO the organizers were impressed with the small crowd that gathered to enjoy the music. Since 2010, the crowd has grown nearly ten times its original size. With 2500 person capacity, tickets seem to be dwindling fast, but there is no wonder with amazing entertainment line, all the amenities and we can never leave out the awesome refreshments.

What is Bloom Heavy River Romp about? Well since I have never had the opportunity to attend, but have heard the rave (which must be true, look at the numbers), I went straight to the sources to get my information. Bloom Heavy River Romp started by Alex Barney, Roger Caldwell, Matt Caldwell, and Taylor Park when they started yearning for something new and original. Together they they created and planned Bloom Heavy River Romp here in Southeast Missouri, and not only do they bring in some good music they give back to the community. In the past few years they have donated to the Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield Missouri, Melana’s Magical Playland, and even collected donations for local food pantries.

Then we get to the music. Bloom Heavy River Romp offers a variety of musical talent; names like Yonder Mountain String Band, the Grammy nominated “father of bluegrass” Del McCoury Band, Bluegrass Ball, and many more will take the stage. Each band will bring their own unique sound, talent, and foot stomping tunes.

For the second year, Bloom Heavy River Romp is at Arrowhead Campground in Grassy Missouri, but this year Schlafly Beer and Port Cape’s delicious food will be available at the River Romp. They River Romp begins on July 28th and runs through July 1st tickets are limited, as are camping spots. Visit Bloom Heavy River Romp’s website to make reservations for RV spots and purchase tickets, but remember space and tickets are limited.
